Curtis Valentine

Education research and policy

Curtis Valentine brings more than 20 years of dedicated service to the field of education at the international, federal, state and local levels. He is director of the Future Learning Network at the Progressive Policy Institute and an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland.

Valentine is the founder of Real Men Teach, a community of educators working to recruit and retain male educators of color. He recently served as an at-large member of the Board of Education for Prince George’s County Public Schools in Maryland, the 20th-largest school district in the United States.

A former education volunteer with the U.S. Peace Corps in South Africa, Valentine also served as an international affairs fellow with the Council on Foreign Relations, where he promoted American economic competitiveness by examining education reform efforts in Finland, Poland, Canada and South Africa.

He earned a degree in English language and literature from Morehouse College and a master’s in public policy from Harvard University. Valentine serves as national vice president of the Morehouse College National Alumni Association, which represents more than 20,000 members.

He is currently writing a book titled Real Men Teach, which highlights the historical impact of men in education.
