Ariel Binder is an economist with the Center for Economic Studies at the U.S. Census Bureau. In his current role, he uses modern econometric methods and big-data linkages to improve the quality of population surveys and to produce new statistics on the structure of U.S. families and incomes.
Binder’s research covers a range of economic topics, including male employment, gender gaps in pay and STEM, intergenerational mobility and affordable housing. His work has been published in leading academic journals and cited in congressional reports and national news media.
He earned a doctorate in economics from the University of Michigan in 2020 and lives in Washington, D.C., with his family. Before beginning his doctoral studies, Binder worked as a fiscal policy research analyst at the International Monetary Fund.
As an AIBM fellow, he supports research programs focused on men’s involvement in employment and family activities.
